In the summer of 2020, against the backdrop of Southern Oregon's serene but isolating forests, 45-year-old Fauna Roseanna Frey vanished. She was last definitively seen on June 29, 2020, at an Umpqua Bank in Rogue River, Oregon. Deeply affected by the recent and unexpected death of her brother, Fauna had decided to take a trip. In the days leading up to her disappearance, she purchased camping equipment and made a reservation at the Weasku Inn in Grants Pass, a reservation she would never claim. Her last contact with her family was on July 1. She had mentioned to her father that she had given a ride to a hitchhiker, a person who was later questioned by police and cleared as a suspect. The initial weeks of Fauna's disappearance yielded few clues for investigators. She had left her laptop and primary cell phone at home, though her father noted she sometimes used burner phones to communicate. A significant break in the case came nearly three months later, on September 23, when her blue 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee was discovered. The vehicle was found locked on a remote, dead-end spur off Reuben Mountain Road, about six miles past the Grave Creek Boat Landing in Josephine County. Some of her belongings, including recently purchased food, were still inside the Jeep, which appeared to have been parked there for a month or more. Extensive searches of the rugged area surrounding the vehicle's location unfortunately turned up no signs of Fauna. The circumstances of Fauna Frey's disappearance remain a painful and unsolved mystery. Authorities have stated there is no evidence of foul play, yet her bank accounts have not been accessed since she was last seen. Her family, particularly her father, has been relentless in their search for answers, even hiring private investigators and offering a substantial reward for information. The case presents a troubling overview: a woman grieving a profound loss embarks on a trip, makes purchases suggesting short-term plans, and then vanishes. The discovery of her vehicle, abandoned in a remote, rugged area far from her last known location, adds a deeply perplexing layer to her story. The lack of any further evidence or contact has left her loved ones in a state of prolonged uncertainty, holding onto hope while facing the harsh reality of her absence.
