In the autumn of 2010, concern grew for 48-year-old Lori Jeanette Blaylock when she failed to appear for her job as a respiratory therapist in Bend, Oregon. Her last day of contact was October 27, 2010. Co-workers, worried after she missed a meeting on November 2nd, reported her missing. When authorities initially questioned her husband, Steven Blaylock, he claimed that Lori had simply walked away from their home following a drunken argument and had not come back. He did not report her disappearance himself, telling police he believed she would eventually return. At the time she was last seen, Lori was believed to be wearing a black sweater with white striped sleeves, blue jeans, and white sneakers, and carrying a black purse. As the investigation into Lori's disappearance progressed, inconsistencies in Steven Blaylock's account began to emerge, and suspicion quickly turned towards him. A search of the couple's home and a utility trailer uncovered crucial evidence, including a bloodstain and a confession note written by Steven. This led to his arrest in November 2010. Following his arrest, Steven admitted to killing his wife and led investigators to the area where he had disposed of her body. He confessed to dumping her remains in the North Santiam River, in a remote, wooded area between Marion Forks and Idanha along Oregon 22. Despite his confession, Steven Blaylock later claimed at trial that he had killed Lori in self-defense, a claim the jury ultimately rejected. In November 2011, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Despite extensive and repeated searches of the North Santiam River and the surrounding forests by law enforcement, divers, and canine units, Lori Blaylock's body has never been found. Some of her clothing was discovered on the riverbank, confirming the location her husband had identified. The case is a heartbreaking one of domestic violence that ended in tragedy. Though Lori's husband was brought to justice for her death, the inability to recover her remains has left her loved ones without the closure of a final resting place. The official investigation concluded with the conviction of her killer, but the search for Lori herself remains an unresolved sorrow for her family and community.
