On a summer day in June of 1997, 35-year-old Michele Fawcett was last seen in Donegal, Pennsylvania, near the Donegal exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. A resident of West Homestead, she was known to be a hardworking individual, holding down two jobs as a restaurant server and a convenience store cashier. In the years leading up to her disappearance, Michele had successfully overcome a past struggle with heroin addiction and had been clean for several years after participating in a methadone treatment program. Described as a woman with long brown hair, brown eyes, and glasses, she did not drive and often relied on others for transportation. On June 27, 1997, she was with a man she had known for a few months, a former dentist named Robert M. Weston, who went by the nickname "Dr. Bob." The account of Michele's last known movements comes solely from Robert Weston. He informed authorities that he and Michele had traveled to Philadelphia on the evening she was last seen. According to his statement, they returned to Westmoreland County the following morning, where he claimed to have dropped her off at a phone booth near Vincent's Plaza at the Irwin exit of the turnpike. However, no witnesses ever came forward to confirm seeing Michele at that location, and she has not been heard from or seen by anyone since. Her disappearance was reported to the police by her sister three days later, on June 30, 1997, after she failed to make her usual contact with her family. Her family was adamant that she would not have willingly broken contact, especially for an extended period. The investigation into Michele Fawcett's disappearance has been fraught with difficulty due to a lack of physical evidence and credible leads. Authorities have noted that her Social Security number has not been used since she went missing. In the years following her disappearance, investigators explored potential connections between her case and the unsolved homicides of several other women in the area during the late 1990s, many of whom had histories of drug abuse or sex work. While investigators believe some of those cases may be related to one another, it has never been determined if Michele's disappearance is linked to these other tragic events. Her loved ones firmly believe that she was a victim of foul play. With no arrests made and no concrete answers, the case of what happened to Michele Fawcett remains an unsolved and painful mystery for her family and investigators.
