On a summer day, July 6, 1991, 39-year-old Cheryl Laverne Grose vanished from Tigard, Oregon. She was at the Shilo Inn with her husband, Tom, who claimed she left of her own accord. Cheryl, a mother of five, has not been seen or heard from since that day. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a jungle-print t-shirt, green shorts, and white sandals. Described as a devoted mother by her friends, Cheryl was a housewife who did not own a car and had no independent financial resources. Following her disappearance, her husband informed their children that their mother had abandoned them. The circumstances surrounding Cheryl's disappearance have long been viewed with suspicion by authorities. Despite her husband's account of her leaving voluntarily, investigators believe she was a victim of foul play. Her husband is considered a person of interest in her case. The investigation into her disappearance was officially reactivated in 2012, yet no charges have ever been filed in connection with her case. A friend of Cheryl's later revealed that she had been staying at a women's shelter in Multnomah County with three of her children in the week leading up to her disappearance. This same friend also noted that her husband did not contact any of her friends to inform them she was missing; they were only made aware of the situation when contacted by the Tigard Police in October of 1991. Cheryl Grose's case remains an unsolved and painful mystery for her loved ones and the community. Born in Lake Stevens, Washington, she had previously resided in Tenino, Washington with her family. The official narrative provided by her husband has been questioned by both law enforcement and those who knew her well. The lack of any contact from Cheryl in the decades since she was last seen is a stark contrast to her described character as a dedicated mother. The investigation, though reignited, has yet to provide the answers needed to bring closure to her family. Her case stands as a testament to the enduring pain and uncertainty that surrounds a long-term missing person investigation, leaving a family without a wife and mother, and a community with unanswered questions.
