On a summer day in August 2017, 26-year-old Jenna Lynn Verhille was at her parents' home in South Rockwood, Michigan, a place where she was trying to piece her life back together. On August 17th, her father overheard her giving directions to their house over the phone. A short time later, a tan, mid-sized Ford, possibly with Ohio license plates, pulled up to the residence. Jennas father watched as she got into the vehicle with an unknown man and drove away, leaving all her personal belongings behind. It was a departure from which she would never return, marking the beginning of a long and painful mystery for her family. In the time leading up to her disappearance, Jenna was reportedly making positive changes in her life. After years of struggling with a heroin addiction that led to several run-ins with the law and stays in rehabilitation facilities, she seemed determined to forge a new path. Having been released from jail just a few weeks prior, she had secured a new job as a waitressing and had spoken to her family about her aspirations to return to Monroe County Community College. Later in the evening on the day she left, her mother sent her a text message asking if she would be home soon. The reply she received simply stated that she would not be. This was the last time her family would ever hear from her; all subsequent calls went straight to voicemail and texts went unanswered. As days turned into years, the investigation into Jenna's whereabouts saw shifts in focus and theory. Initially, with no evidence of foul play, the South Rockwood Police Department deemed her case inactive, suggesting that as an adult, she may have left on her own accord. Her family, however, feared she had been taken against her will and was possibly a victim of human trafficking. A significant development came in April 2021, when a tip led investigators to a house on the 300 block of Riverview Avenue in the nearby city of Monroe, where Jenna may have been seen in the early morning hours of August 18, 2017. This new information prompted Monroe Police Department detectives to take over the case, conducting interviews and executing search warrants. Over time, the prevailing belief of both law enforcement and Jenna's loved ones has sadly shifted; they now suspect she may have died from a drug overdose around the time she vanished. The case officially remains an unsolved, endangered missing person case, a heart-wrenching limbo for a family still searching for answers and hoping to one day bring Jenna home.
