On a summer day in July of 1972, 15-year-old Kathy Sue Wilcox, a female from Otsego, Michigan, had a heated argument with her father and stepmother. The disagreement, reportedly about her dating an 18-year-old, escalated to the point where her stepmother slapped her. Angered and upset, Kathy stormed out of her family's home on West Franklin Street, leaving all her money and personal belongings behind.
