In the spring of 2010, a 51-year-old woman named Barbara Tyslicki vanished from Taylor, Michigan, leaving behind a life and a family. On May 10, 2010, Barbara, a resident of Allen Park, was given a ride to the Southland Mall. The last confirmed sighting of her was as she walked across Eureka Road, seemingly headed towards a church. At the time of her disappearance, Barbara was described as a white female with brown hair, which she had dyed blonde and wore at shoulder length. She had brown eyes and wore wire-rimmed glasses. A distinctive physical characteristic was the tip of one of her fingers, which had been previously severed in a door and reattached. When she was last seen, she was carrying a backpack. The months leading up to Barbara's disappearance were marked by profound grief. In October 2008, her 16-year-old son, Vincent Polasky, was tragically killed when he was struck by a car while crossing a road in Allen Park. The loss of her son undoubtedly had a significant impact on Barbara. Her brother, Walter Tyslicki, was the one who dropped her off on the day she went missing, and he recalled her heading in the direction of the church across from the mall. Since that day, there has been no contact from Barbara, and her case remains an active missing person investigation. The Taylor Police Department is the investigating agency for Barbara's case. Her information has been entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), a national database for missing persons. Over the years, there have been few leads in her case. Her DNA is on file, and at one point, it was compared to unidentified remains found in Detroit, but it was not a match. The circumstances surrounding what happened to Barbara Tyslicki after she crossed Eureka Road that day are still unknown. The lack of answers has left her family with years of uncertainty and heartache. The overview of her case is a reminder of the many individuals who disappear without a trace, leaving behind families who continue to search for them.
