In the autumn of 1976, a young man named Lane Nelson Smyth, aged 22, was with his father, Carter Eugene Smyth, in the rugged coastal landscape of Kodiak, Alaska. On November 7th, their lives took a harrowing turn. While out on the water, they encountered trouble and attempted to beach their small boat.
