On a day in the fall of 1976, 45-year-old Carter Eugene Smyth, Jr., a male resident of Kodiak, Alaska, and his son, 22-year-old Lane Nelson Smyth, found themselves in a perilous situation. The two men were in their small boat near Narrow Cape, just south of Kodiak Island, on November 7th. As they attempted to beach their vessel, the boat was suddenly swamped by the challenging Alaskan waters. This unfortunate event would be the last time anyone would see or hear from the father and son.
