On April 16, 1968, the Arellano family, including 2-year-old Leticia Arellano, were traveling from Mexico to San Angelo, Texas, to meet with family members. Their car broke down due to a flat tire on a desolate stretch of U.S. Route 277 between Loma Alta and Sonora, Texas.
