In the autumn of 1999, a 55-year-old man named David Warren Poole embarked on a solo sailing adventure he had long dreamed of. On October 25, 1999, he was last seen in Hoonah, Alaska, aboard his sailing vessel, the 'Bird'. He had plans to navigate the pristine waters of Glacier Bay for a week before charting a course south to the warmer climate of Southern California.
