In the quiet coastal city of Coos Bay, Oregon, the community was unsettled by the disappearance of a long-time resident, 88-year-old Edward Fredrickson, a male who was last seen on May 24, 2024. The story of his last known movements began to surface through video surveillance from the early morning hours of Saturday, May 25, 2024. At approximately 5:57 a.m., Mr. Fredrickson, known to his friends and family as Ed, parked his vehicle in a gravel lot in the Empire district of Coos Bay. After he got out of his car by himself, he was seen walking past a fence and then proceeding across a wide, grassy field. His path led him north, towards the shoreline of the bay, which was at low tide. He walked with a purpose until he was no longer visible to the camera, leaving his subsequent actions and whereabouts a mystery. Investigators believe it is likely he continued walking along the shore in a northeasterly direction, but what happened after he left the camera's sight remains unknown. The discovery of his unattended vehicle prompted a significant response from local and federal agencies. The Coos Bay Police Department initiated a missing person investigation, and a large-scale search and rescue operation was quickly launched. Search teams on the ground meticulously combed the open field and the extensive shoreline where he was last seen heading. The United States Coast Guard provided crucial support, conducting fly-overs of the area and deploying boat patrols to search the waters of the bay. Despite these exhaustive efforts by land, air, and sea, no trace of Mr. Fredrickson was found. His vehicle was processed for any potential clues by the police department and was later returned to his concerned family. The lack of any findings led authorities to fear that Mr. Fredrickson may have tragically entered the water. Edward Fredrickson is a white male with blue eyes and gray or partially gray hair. He stands between five feet nine inches and five feet ten inches tall and weighs approximately 155 to 160 pounds. He has a couple of distinct physical characteristics: the upper lobes of both of his ears are pointed, and he has a noticeable gap in the midline of his lower row of teeth. The surveillance video captured his final known attire: a black beanie hat, eyeglasses, a black long-sleeved coat with a collar, and black gloves that barely covered his wrists. He was also wearing dark gray pants that appeared to have white stains, possibly from paint, along with white socks and black shoes. He was seen carrying a small plastic water bottle. The overview of this case is one of a deeply concerning and mysterious disappearance of an elderly man. With no evidence of foul play, the investigation has focused on the heartbreaking possibility that he met with an accident after he walked out of view towards the bay, leaving his family and the Coos Bay community waiting for answers and hoping for his return.
