A sense of concern spread through a Pennsylvania community when 14-year-old Enci "Aubrey" Wu was discovered to be missing from her Palmer Township home on January 10, 2025. The initial welfare check by police was prompted by a call from the parents of the girl's boyfriend, who had grown worried after not hearing from her. When officers arrived, her parents were unaware that she was not in her bedroom. A review of the family's home security footage revealed the girl had climbed out of her bedroom window hours earlier while her parents were asleep. In the early days of the investigation, her father expressed on social media that his daughter was experiencing a serious mental health crisis. She was initially seen wearing a grey Nirvana hoodie, black yoga pants, and white Nike sneakers, but was later captured on video in a different outfit. The search for the missing teen soon involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including local and state police, the FBI, and Homeland Security. Initially classified as a runaway, the investigation followed leads that placed her in Whitehall Township the day after she disappeared, where it was believed she was trying to get transportation out of the area. The case drew significant attention, both locally and nationally, as weeks turned into months. During this time, there was much online discussion and speculation about her disappearance. The situation grew more complex when the teen's stepfather was charged with harassment for online statements he made related to the case. After more than three months, a breakthrough came when Enci was found safe in Jasper, Georgia, on April 14, 2025. Her location was discovered partly due to her own social media activity; she had been posting videos in which she was recognizable despite having dyed her hair blonde. Tips from the community, including some that came in during a live social media session held by her parents, played a crucial role in authorities locating her. Upon being found, she was unharmed and did not require medical attention. She was placed in the care of Georgia Child Protective Services, with plans for her eventual return to Pennsylvania to be handled by the Department of Human Services. An investigation into the circumstances of her time in Georgia and the nature of the relationships she formed there was initiated by authorities.
