On May 22, 1989, 23-year-old Dawn Marie Mozino finished her shift as a hostess in the nutrition department at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania and was never seen again. She was expected to take public transportation to her home in Wayne, but she never arrived. At the time of her disappearance, Dawn was a vibrant young woman who, despite having a learning disability, was independent and reliable. She lived with her mother and sister, maintained her own bank account and phone line, and was an enthusiastic participant in the Special Olympics, having won several medals. On the day she vanished, she was wearing her work uniform: a gray skirt, a white shirt, a maroon vest, and a black bow tie. Her family reported her missing within hours, knowing that it was highly out of character for the dependable young woman, who followed a strict schedule, to disappear without a word. The investigation into Dawn's disappearance quickly focused on a man named Thomas W. Hawkins Jr., a former co-worker. A witness reported seeing Dawn with Hawkins shortly before she went missing. Hawkins had a disturbing criminal history, including a previous prison sentence for the murder of a teenage girl. After Dawn's disappearance, he was charged with, and later convicted of, the rape and murder of his own niece and was sentenced to death. Investigators learned that Hawkins and Dawn had worked together in the mid-1980s, and he had reportedly given her rides home from the bus stop in the past. Despite the strong suspicion surrounding him, and an offer to commute his death sentence to life in prison in exchange for information about Dawn, Hawkins denied any involvement in her case and was never formally charged in connection with her disappearance. While suspicion around Thomas Hawkins has persisted for decades, other avenues have also been considered, prompted by the discovery of Dawn's personal diary. Her writings revealed personal struggles, including what has been described as two "love triangles," which may have involved an ex-boyfriend and a friend's affair. Her last diary entry, made just five days before she vanished, mentioned turmoil involving her friend and this affair. Despite these leads and the ongoing efforts of the Radnor Township Police Department, who have utilized tools like DNA analysis over the years, Dawn's case remains unsolved. The disappearance of Dawn Mozino is a long-standing and heartbreaking mystery for her family and investigators, who continue to hope for answers. The case is a complex one, shadowed by the presence of a convicted killer, yet containing personal elements from Dawn's own life that suggest other possibilities. For over three decades, her family has been left to wonder what happened to the happy young woman who vanished on a spring day after leaving work.
