In the winter of 2004, a quiet disappearance in Portland, Oregon, marked the beginning of a long and painful story for one family. Six-year-old Takoda Tei Weed, a biracial boy of White and Asian descent, was last seen on January 15, 2004. He has brown hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being approximately 4'5" tall and weighing 80 pounds. Takoda, who was known by the nickname "Tei Chan," vanished along with his younger sister, Tiana. The circumstances surrounding their disappearance point to a case of international family abduction. The children's parents, Brett Weed and Kyoko Oda, were divorced, and with the court's permission, Kyoko was allowed to move with Takoda and Tiana to her home country of Japan. The agreement stipulated that Brett would be allowed visitation and regular contact with his children. However, after arriving in Japan in January 2004, Kyoko Oda allegedly severed all communication, effectively cutting off the children from their father. This action prompted a heart-wrenching legal battle across international borders. In July 2005, Brett Weed was granted full legal and physical custody of both Takoda and Tiana, but by then, their whereabouts were unknown, and he has had no contact with them since they left the United States. The investigation into the disappearance of Takoda and Tiana Weed is being handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is strongly believed that the children remain in Japan with their mother. There is a possibility that Takoda may be using the alias Tei Oda. This case is a poignant example of the complexities and emotional toll of international parental child abduction, leaving a father searching for his children for many years. The case remains unresolved, with two children living in a different country, separated from one half of their family.
