On a Memorial Day Monday, May 26, 1986, the children of Satnam Kaur awoke in their Detroit, Michigan, home to a quiet morning. Their father, a taxi driver, had already departed for his day's work, and they assumed their 35-year-old mother was still resting. The normalcy of the holiday morning was shattered when their father returned home for lunch to find his wife gone. The only explanation was a note left on the refrigerator.
