In the early summer of 1992, 48-year-old Wayne Falconer Wikel, an experienced outdoorsman from Portland, Oregon, embarked on a solo camping and fishing trip in the scenic yet rugged Eagle Creek area. An avid hiker and fisherman, Wayne was well-prepared for his planned 28-mile journey along trail #401, a place of natural beauty near the Bonneville Dam.
