On a cold Tuesday in late December of 2016, a 34-year-old man named Timothy Micah Smith vanished from Torrance, Pennsylvania. He was last seen on the morning of December 27th, at approximately 10:30 a.m. At the time of his disappearance, Timothy was a patient at Torrance State Hospital, a facility he had been committed to for mental health reasons. He left the hospital on his own accord, stepping out into the winter day without the necessary medication he relied upon daily. Concerns were immediately raised by authorities, as it was believed that without his medication, which he had last taken at 6 a.m. that morning, he could face severe health issues and become disoriented. Timothy was last seen wearing a black jacket, a white t-shirt, and blue jeans. Timothy was described as a white male with blue eyes and brown hair. While he sometimes wore his hair long and had a beard and moustache, he had recently cut his hair short and shaved prior to his disappearance. He stood between 5'5" and 5'10" tall and weighed around 145 pounds. It was noted in his missing person file that he did not maintain contact with any family members. This lack of close connections added another layer of difficulty to the search efforts that were launched in the wake of his disappearance. Immediately following his departure from the hospital, law enforcement and volunteers began to search for Timothy. The area surrounding the hospital was scoured, and search efforts extended to the Conemaugh River and a location known as McGee Run, but these initial searches yielded no clues as to his whereabouts. The Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg took charge of the investigation, but as days turned into weeks and then years, no significant leads have emerged. The case of Timothy Micah Smith remains an open and unresolved missing person investigation, a quiet and somber mystery in Westmoreland County.
