Overview
On March 15, 2020, a tragic mass shooting occurred in Springfield, Missouri. The perpetrator, 31-year-old Joaquin S. Roman, engaged in a violent spree, firing from his vehicle at random people before ending his rampage inside a local convenience store. The incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals�including a police officer�and injuries to several others. Roman then took his own life.
Timeline & Details
Roman began firing from his vehicle at passers-by while driving through eastern Springfield. Between approximately 11:24 p.m. and 11:43 p.m. (Central Standard Time), multiple 911 calls reported the shootings. Roman eventually crashed his vehicle into a Kum & Go convenience store at 2885 East Chestnut Expressway. He entered the store and continued shooting.
First responders arrived; Officers Christopher Walsh and Josiah Overton were shot outside the store. Walsh was fatally wounded; Overton sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Inside the store, Roman killed three more individuals and wounded at least one employee. Ultimately, Roman died by suicide inside the store.
