In the late hours of a summer evening in Savannah, Georgia, the life of 25-year-old Lavonta Latroy Mayes was tragically cut short. On July 23, 2023, Mayes, a Black/African American male, was fatally shot at an apartment complex located at 8000 Waters Avenue. Responding to the scene just before 9 p.m., police discovered Mayes unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead in the early morning hours.
