Tynesia Cephas, a 16-year-old Black girl from Wilmington, Delaware, was killed on the night of April 26, 2017, after stepping into a large neighborhood confrontation in an attempt to restore calm. Cephas was remembered as an honors student at Newark High School, a peacemaker with a bright personality, and someone whose instinct was to help rather than retreat when trouble unfolded around her.
