On a late summer evening in Philadelphia, the life of a young Black/African American man, Eric Byrd, was tragically cut short at the age of 27. On September 8, 2008, at approximately 8:49 p.m., police responded to a call and found Byrd lying on the ground outside a Chinese take-out restaurant in the vicinity of Ninth Street and Lindley Avenue.
