In the early moments of a Thursday morning, the life of Derrick Williams, a 52-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short on a sidewalk in his own neighborhood. Just after midnight on October 27, 2016, Philadelphia Police officers were called to the 6500 block of North 17th Street in the West Oak Lane section of the city. There, they discovered Williams unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
