Curtis Daniel �Danny� Bates, a 74-year-old man from Athens, Alabama, died on April 10, 2026, inside his home in the Watercress Subdivision. Athens police were called to a residence near Blair Road and Watercress Drive at about 9:30 that Friday morning, and what began as a call for service quickly became a death investigation when officers found two adults dead inside the home.
