Sixteen-year-old Meeyah Smith was shot and killed on the night of July 4, 2025, in Chicago�s Avalon Park neighborhood. Around 11 p.m., on the 1200 block of East 83rd Street, an assailant approached on foot and opened fire on Meeyah Smith and a 35-year-old man. Both were taken to Jackson Park Community Hospital, where Meeyah Smith, a teenage girl, was pronounced dead; the man suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and survived. Authorities identified the victim as Meeyah Smith, age 16.
