J. Charles Hopkins, a 32-year-old Black/African American male from Chester, Pennsylvania, was killed on August 30, 2016, in a shooting that unfolded while he was driving through the city�s West End. What began as an ordinary trip along Third Street turned violent when gunfire struck Hopkins as he was behind the wheel of a red 2005 Volvo. After he was shot, the vehicle continued out of control and crashed into the wall of Thomas M. Thomas Memorial Presbyterian Church.
