In the early morning hours of December 15, 2020, the life of 15-year-old Jafar Brooks, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. Police in Penn Hills responded to a call shortly after 12:40 a.m. in the 1900 block of Garden Drive, near the Leechburg Garden Apartments. There, they discovered a grim scene: an SUV was stopped in the middle of the road with its passenger door ajar. Beside the vehicle, Jafar was lying face down, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his neck.
