In the winter of 1910, the city of Tallapoosa, Georgia, lost a dedicated public servant in a sudden and violent manner. Marshal William Henry Maeger, a 53-year-old male, was shot and killed on Sunday, February 13th. His death occurred within the confines of the Old City Hall's basement, which housed the city jail. The Marshal had just completed an arrest and was in the process of jailing the individual when the situation turned fatal.
