In the early morning hours of June 4, 2022, the quiet of a Guyton, Georgia neighborhood was shattered by gunfire that ended the life of Anthony Thomas Best, a 54-year-old African American man. An off-duty correctional officer at the Effingham County Correctional Institution, Best was discovered in the driveway of his Brogdon Road home with multiple gunshot wounds.
