In the spring of 1980, Charles and Catherine Romer, an affluent couple from Scarsdale, New York, were making their annual trip home after spending the winter in sunny Miami, Florida. The journey in their distinctive black 1979 Lincoln Continental was a familiar one. On April 8th, the couple decided to stop for the night in Brunswick, Georgia.
