On May 30, 1992, 25-year-old Melvin William Mestre, Jr., a male, and two companions, Robert Gershbein and Daniel Orbik, embarked on a canoeing trip in the scenic yet formidable waters of Kachemak Bay near Homer, Alaska. What started as an outdoor adventure turned into a lasting mystery when the three men were reported overdue. Mestre was reportedly wearing a purple fleece jacket with a green collar, army-style pants, and a red pullover windbreaker at the time of his disappearance.
