Wassilie J. Alexie was a 37-year-old Alaska Native man from the Bethel area who was last seen on August 15, 1998, at a fish camp near Oscarville, Alaska, along the Kuskokwim River. The rural river setting was closely tied to everyday travel and subsistence life in the region, but it also left few witnesses and little physical evidence when Wassilie vanished.
