On August 27, 1998, a tragic boating accident led to the disappearance of 38-year-old Emery Omiak from the area of Nome, Alaska. He was traveling with four other adults and one child on a boat trip from Wales to Diomede when the incident occurred. The others who went missing with Emery Omiak have been identified as Jason Ozenna, Mevlin Kayouktuk, Gene Ozenna, Mary Milligrock, and 7-year-old Kevin Omiak.
