On a summer day in Alaska, July 22, 2001, the life of 39-year-old Bessie Hansen took a tragic turn. She was aboard the fishing vessel Lorelle Renee in the waters of Bristol Bay, a place defined by its rugged beauty and the unforgiving nature of the sea. It was approximately four miles north of the mouth of the Ugashik River when the unthinkable happened.
