In the vast and rugged landscape of southern Utah, a mystery began to unfold in the late autumn of 2017. Martin Andrew Smith, a 54-year-old man from California, had been camping in a dry wash off the Hole in the Rock Road in Escalante. The last known sign of his activity was a receipt dated November 27, 2017.
