In August of 2021, 42-year-old James Daniels, also known by his nicknames 'Mojo' and 'JD', was in the process of helping a friend move from Nevada to Mississippi. The two were traveling in separate vehicles through the Arizona desert when a tire on the trailer being towed went flat. This occurred on Highway 93, a desolate stretch of road between Kingman and Wickenburg. Daniels stayed behind with the disabled trailer, a white box truck that said ‘Liberty Distribution’ on the sides and ‘Got Milk’ on the back, and his small dog, Penny, while his friend drove off to get the tire repaired. This would be the last time James Daniels was seen by his friend. Sometime after his friend's departure, Daniels and his dog inexplicably moved their location. The initial breakdown happened at mile marker 158, but later that night, calls to 911 reported a man and a dog in the roadway near mile marker 164. Witnesses who saw Daniels described him as disoriented and agitated. One caller reported that he kept repeating, "I don't believe it". When an Arizona State Trooper arrived on the scene in the early morning hours, the box truck was found, but James Daniels was gone. The officer saw his dog, Penny, but she ran off into the desert before she could be secured. The official search for James Daniels did not begin for some time after his disappearance, which has been a point of concern for his family and friends. The investigation was initially handled by the Teton County Sheriff's Office in Wyoming, where Daniels resided, before being transferred to authorities in Arizona. The highway where he was last seen is known locally as 'Bloody Alley' due to the high number of accidents and the significant amount of time it can take for emergency services to reach the area. Despite the efforts of his loved ones to raise awareness and funds for a private investigator, there have been no significant leads in the case. James Daniels, a man described as a loving friend who frequently wore kilts, vanished into the vast Arizona landscape, leaving behind a series of puzzling events. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, and the case continues to be a painful mystery for those who know and love him.
