On May 8, 2022, 14-year-old Jacob Petty and his brother, Joshua Petty, left Farmington Hills, Michigan, with a friend, embarking on a journey to Las Vegas, Nevada. Their trip was interrupted when the vehicle they were traveling in was pulled over by a deputy in Beaver County, Utah. During the traffic stop, the officer identified the driver and confirmed the presence of the two juvenile passengers, Jacob and Joshua.
