In the late autumn or early winter of 1989, 76-year-old Marguerite Erin Hoffman vanished from her home in Alabaster, Tennessee. At the time of her disappearance, she was in poor health and was experiencing vision loss. Having been widowed three years prior, she had recently been joined in her home by her only child, her 56-year-old son, John Louie Hoffman Jr., who had moved in just three weeks before she was last seen.
