In the early morning hours of June 22, 2025, 38-year-old Mark Henry Hicks Sr. was seen for the last time by his family at his brother's residence in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Surveillance footage captured him shortly after, around 5:00 a.m., walking along Pleasant Street in Hanover. Later that same afternoon, he was reportedly seen in New Oxford, a town about a twenty-minute drive away, getting into a maroon truck with an ex-girlfriend at a 7-Eleven store. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a camouflage shirt and black "HEYDUDE" shoes. Hicks was described as a 5-foot-4-inch white male, weighing about 140 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He had several distinctive physical features, including multiple tattoos on his hands, one of which was a rose, and he was missing his right pinky finger. The days and weeks following Mark Hicks's disappearance were filled with anguish and uncertainty for his loved ones. His family expressed that it was highly uncharacteristic of him to be out of contact, and they feared that he had met with foul play. He was known to travel around the area and did not possess a cell phone, which complicated efforts to locate him. The Northern York County Regional Police were involved in the investigation, and authorities reportedly searched homeless shelters and hospitals in an attempt to find any trace of him, but these efforts yielded no clues as to his whereabouts. The situation was made even more distressing for the community as Hicks was one of three men who had gone missing from the Hanover area within a similar timeframe. Tragically, the search for Mark Hicks came to a somber conclusion. On the morning of April 16, 2026, at approximately 7:23 a.m., police were called to a wooded area in the 400 block of East Middle Street in Hanover Borough after human remains were discovered. On May 15, 2026, the York County Coroner's Office confirmed through dental records that the remains were those of Mark Henry Hicks. The coroner subsequently ruled his death a suicide by asphyxiation. The discovery brought a painful end to the nearly ten-month search, leaving his family and community to mourn their loss. The investigation into his death involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Hanover Borough Police and York County Detectives.
