The last known communication from 32-year-old George A. Cox Jr. was on or around October 19, 2024. After his family was unable to contact him, he was officially reported missing to the Cleveland Division of Police on November 8, 2024. Concerned for his well-being, officers conducted a welfare check at the Cleveland apartment he shared with his girlfriend, Dy'mond Vaden, near Bosworth Road and Peony Avenue. Upon arrival, police discovered the residence was nearly empty of furniture, and Vaden was no longer living there. Investigators found what appeared to be blood on the floor, which was later confirmed through forensic analysis to be that of George Cox. The search for George Cox continued for months, leaving his family, including his young daughter, hoping for answers. A significant break in the case came on May 15, 2025, when two kayakers discovered a body in a shallow, marshy area of the Huron River in Erie County. The remains were wrapped in a bed sheet and bound with rope. The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, and with assistance from multiple agencies, including the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the body was recovered. Through DNA profile comparison and other evidence, the remains were positively identified as those of George A. Cox Jr. His body was described as being badly decomposed. Following the tragic discovery, the investigation into his death was led by the Cleveland Division of Police. The investigation uncovered evidence linking his girlfriend, Dy'mond Vaden, to his death. Blood consistent with Cox's was found on clothing at her new residence, and the bed sheet his body was wrapped in matched sheets from the apartment they once shared. In July 2025, Vaden was arrested and subsequently indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges, including murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse. Another individual, Emmanuel McQueen Jr., was also arrested with Vaden and faced a weapons charge. The case that began as a missing person report tragically concluded with the discovery of a homicide victim and the charging of his girlfriend in connection with his death.
