In the autumn of 1981, Aida Ruth Calfee was a 25-year-old woman working as a secretary for a brokerage firm in Atlanta, Georgia. Her life, however, was overshadowed by a turbulent relationship with her boyfriend, Jim Pruitt. Just months before she vanished, in July of that year, Aida had sought legal protection, accusing Pruitt of a violent assault.
