On May 25, 2000, 46-year-old Sandra "Sandy" Kay Baker was seen for the last time in Delaware Township, Pennsylvania. She was a resident of Folk Road, where she lived with her fianc, William "Billy" Thomas Crea Jr. The couple had plans to marry in October of that year. According to Crea, he last saw his fiance between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. at a Sheetz convenience store on Route 18. Sandra was driving her dark blue 1988 Honda Accord with Florida license plates. Crea also told authorities that he received a distressing phone call from her around 1:00 p.m. that same day. During this call, she allegedly stated she was in danger and could not come home but would be in touch in a few days; she never called back and has not been heard from since. A witness reported seeing her car later that day, heading south toward Sharon, Pennsylvania. The investigation into Sandra's disappearance soon revealed unsettling details. Her car was discovered abandoned in the Shenango Valley Mall parking lot the day after she was last seen. However, due to a significant oversight, the vehicle was repossessed by a finance company and sold at auction before it could be processed for evidence by law enforcement. Police were not able to locate the car until several years later, by which time any potential evidence was long gone. There was no activity on Sandra's bank accounts or credit cards following her disappearance. Suspicion eventually fell upon her fianc, Billy Crea, who was publicly named a suspect in 2005. It was discovered that Crea, who had a history of domestic violence, had hired a private investigator named Clifford Aley Jr. to look into Sandra's background because he suspected she was having an affair. The case took another turn when the private investigator, Clifford Aley, became entangled in the investigation. He initially lied to police about his involvement and was subsequently charged with and convicted of hindering the apprehension of the person responsible for Sandra's disappearance, for which he was sentenced to prison. Aley later claimed that Crea had confessed to murdering Sandra by strangulation during an argument. According to Aley, Crea said he had placed her body in a container and buried it miles from his parents' home. Despite this information, Sandra's body has never been found. In 2008, seven years after she vanished, Sandra Kay Baker was declared legally dead. The primary suspect, Billy Crea, never faced charges in connection with her disappearance and died by suicide in 2011 while in hospice care for cancer, potentially taking any secrets about Sandra's fate with him. The case remains a poignant story of a woman who vanished, leaving her loved ones with unanswered questions and a search for justice that continues to this day.
