In the quiet community of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the evening of April 4, 2007, marked the beginning of a lasting mystery with the disappearance of 58-year-old Jarrett Lee Burton. An accomplished microbiologist with a Ph.D., Burton was last seen at his residence in the 1400 block of Seidersville Road at approximately 8:00 p.m. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a Black male, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds, with graying black hair and brown eyes. He was known to wear wire-framed eyeglasses and had several distinguishing marks, including a scar at the base of his throat, another on his right index finger, and a freckle on his nose. On that rainy evening, following an argument with his girlfriend, Burton left his home wearing a light-colored, ripped dress shirt, beige dress pants, and black shoes, and has not been seen or heard from since. Jarrett Burton's life was one of intellectual achievement, yet it was also marked by personal challenges. He had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and attention deficit disorder, conditions for which he required medication. According to his sister, Burton had experienced a mental breakdown while he was a student at Kenyon College in Ohio. It was reported that prior to his disappearance, he had stopped taking his prescribed medication, believing it was no longer effective. This decision, coupled with the emotional distress of the argument on the night he vanished, has led to concerns for his well-being. His family has expressed the fear that he may be living on the streets, unable or unwilling to seek help. The investigation into Jarrett Lee Burton's disappearance has been handled by the Salisbury Township Police Department. Despite the passage of time, his case remains open and unsolved. One theory, put forth by his sister, is that he may have intentionally disappeared to start a new life, possibly out of shame, and may have changed his identity. This possibility, however, does not diminish the ongoing concern for his safety and the enduring pain his absence has caused his loved ones. The case of Jarrett Lee Burton serves as a poignant reminder of the complex interplay of mental health, personal crisis, and the anguish of unresolved loss. The lack of any contact or credible sightings since that April evening leaves his family with unanswered questions and a void that cannot be filled.
