On a weekend in early spring, eleven-year-old Bethany Markowski, a young girl with brown hair and blue eyes, was spending court-ordered visitation time with her father. This arrangement was the result of her parents' recent and difficult separation. On Sunday, March 4, 2001, the day she was scheduled to return to her mother's care, Bethany vanished.
