In the spring of 2004, 21-year-old Brian Allen Hatfield was looking forward to a future that included a move from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Atlanta, Georgia. He was described by his mother as being in a good place in his life and was employed as a manager at a Racetrac gas station on O'Neil Lane.
