In the late summer of 1972, fourteen-year-old Charlotte Jean Loomis was visiting her sister-in-law in Eatontown, New Jersey, where she was stationed on an Army base. Some accounts suggest that Charlotte was experiencing some unspecified troubles at her family home in Detroit, Michigan, and had come to New Jersey for a summer visit with her older sister Carole and her husband.
