In the late summer of 1987, a sense of hopeful anticipation filled the home of the Carriere family in Waggaman, Louisiana. Their 19-year-old daughter, Vickie, was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first child, a baby boy. She was eight and a half months pregnant, and her family was excitedly preparing for their new grandson. Vickie, who worked as a clerk at the Avondale Marine Shipyard, was described as a petite young woman with curly blonde hair and green eyes. She had a small tattoo of a yellow rose on one of her ankles. The last time she was seen, she was wearing a white maternity top with the word "Baby" printed in black letters and dark blue shorts. The last known sighting of Vickie Carriere was on the evening of September 12, 1987. She had spent the day with her boyfriend and the father of her unborn child, Joseph Phillips, at his family's fishing camp. On their way to take Vickie back to her parents' house on Azalea Drive, they stopped at a Time Saver convenience store on River Road. According to Phillips, he went into the store for just a few minutes to buy drinks, leaving Vickie to wait in the car. When he returned, he said both Vickie and a bundle of her clothes were gone. Vickie was never seen or heard from again. Concern grew quickly within Vickie's family when she failed to return home. Their alarm intensified when she missed her own baby shower a week later. The family's excitement for the new baby turned to anguish as her due date in August came and went with no word from Vickie. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into her disappearance. Suspicion fell on her boyfriend, Joseph Phillips, who was considered a suspect in the case. He denied any involvement and refused to take a polygraph test. Despite the suspicion, he was never charged in connection with her disappearance and passed away in 2002. The case remains unsolved, leaving a lingering sense of loss and unanswered questions for Vickie's loved ones. The disappearance of a young, expectant mother on the cusp of welcoming her child into the world is a tragedy that has left a lasting impact on her family and community. The case serves as a somber reminder of a life and a future that were tragically cut short.
