On December 5, 1991, a 35-year-old man named Male Eugene McCommon was with his boat on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As he was preparing the vessel to navigate through the locks near the Chickamauga Dam, he reportedly fell overboard into the water. Eyewitnesses at the scene saw him go under the surface on the lower side of the dam. Tragically, he did not resurface.
