On the morning of June 18, 1994, 39-year-old Wayne David Powell was seen by his teenage daughter leaving their family home on Brushy Butte Mountain in Roseburg, Oregon. This would be the last time he was ever seen or heard from by his loved ones. At the time of his disappearance, Wayne was described as a White male, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing around 225 pounds. He had black, graying hair with a receding hairline, and hazel eyes. Distinctive physical characteristics included a large scar on his chest from open-heart surgery, a raised mole on the side of his nose, and a partially missing left pinky finger. On the day he vanished, he was wearing a burgundy flannel shirt, blue Levi's jeans, and brown boots. Two days after he was last seen, a significant, yet unsettling, discovery was made. On June 20, 1994, Wayne's black Ford F-250 club cab pickup truck was located abandoned in a brushy area near Dixonville, Oregon. The discovery of the truck, however, only deepened the mystery surrounding his disappearance. Inside the vehicle, investigators found his wallet, keys, and wedding ring. The presence of these personal and valuable items seemed to suggest that robbery was not a motive, leaving more questions than answers for his family and the authorities. The scene offered no clear indication of what might have happened to Wayne after he left his home. Decades have passed since Wayne Powell vanished, and his case remains an active missing person investigation with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Despite the passage of time, very few details have emerged to shed light on the circumstances of his disappearance. The lack of significant leads has made it incredibly difficult for investigators to piece together the events of that June day. For Wayne's family, the years have been filled with uncertainty and a longing for closure. The case serves as a somber reminder of the enduring pain and unanswered questions that haunt the loved ones of the missing. The official investigation continues, with the hope that one day, new information will surface and finally provide the answers that have been sought for so long.
