In the late summer of 1999, a feeling of unease settled over parts of the boating community in Tacoma, Washington, when 42-year-old Peter Donald Pilkey vanished on August 2nd. An avid and capable boater, his disappearance was under perplexing circumstances related to a boating accident. The initial discovery that something was amiss came when his 19-foot boat was found drifting and unoccupied near Fox Island, about five miles south of the iconic Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
